In a signing event witnessed at the Presidential Palace in Ankara on 29 November, Vietnam Airlines and Turkish Airlines officially inked their commitment to a new air cargo transportation collaboration.
The agreement, signed under the auspices of Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, marks a moment for the two carriers.
It promises not only extended benefits for air cargo customers but also strategic advantages for both national carriers.
Paving the Way for Joint Venture
Vietnam Airlines and Turkish Airlines are set to embark on a comprehensive collaboration aimed at boosting the air cargo sector. The primary focus is on conducting extensive research to pave the way for a potential air cargo joint venture.
This venture envisions providing customers with a superior network characterized by larger capacities, faster transit times, a more extensive range of destinations, and increased flight frequencies.
Pooling the resources of these two national airlines is anticipated to result in heightened efficiency in aircraft capacity utilization.
The combined efforts aim to solidify their global standing, making them formidable contenders in the highly competitive aviation industry.
Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, emphasized the mutually beneficial nature of this collaboration. He stated, “The cooperation between Vietnam Airlines and Turkish Airlines was established on the basis of mutual benefit.”
This symbiotic relationship extends to Turkish Airlines, allowing them to expand their transportation network to areas previously inaccessible, such as Oceania and Northeast Asia, leveraging Vietnam’s central geographical location as a strategic transit hub.
Turkish Airlines’ CEO Bilal Ekşi expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, particularly its focus on the vital Asian market. He affirmed, “Asia is one of our most important markets,” highlighting the significance of expanding their presence in this dynamic continent.”
Ekşi underscored the ongoing efforts of Turkish Airlines in the global aviation shift from West to East, further emphasizing the strategic importance of their collaboration with Vietnam Airlines.
Codeshare Cooperation
Today’s agreement follows a series of strategic initiatives between the two airlines. In June of this year, Vietnam Airlines and Turkish Airlines inked a codeshare cooperation.
This has introduced flexibility and diversity in flight options for passengers on routes between Vietnam and Türkiye, along with neighboring regions.
The pairing allows passengers to seamlessly make reservations and purchase tickets for flights connecting Istanbul to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and between Hanoi and Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.
The Economic, Social, and Tourist Nexus
These destinations hold immense economic, social, and tourist significance for both Türkiye and Vietnam.
The collaboration not only strengthens the aviation ties between the nations but also reinforces the socio-economic and cultural bonds that unite them.
