United 767 Returns to Washington IAD With Suspected Fuel Leak

A United flight operating from Washington, DC to Munich made a precautionary return to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) on 22 April 2024.

United Airlines flight UA108, a Boeing 767-300ER bound for Munich initiated the return after flight crew reported a fuel leak.

The aircraft was in the vicinity of Providence, RI at cruising altitude FL330 (33,000 feet) when flight crew made the decision to effect a return.

Flight UA108 made its return to Washington IAD, where it landed without further incident just over an hour from the turnaround.

Flight data shows that flight UA108 made an on-time departure out of Washington Dulles airport at 17:30 local time on 22 April.

The flight set course normally and climbed to flight level FL330 in preparation for the transatlantic sector.

Flight crew initiated the return to Washington whilst approaching Martha’s Vineyard and the outbound track.

The aircraft conducting the transatlantic service to Munich, Germany was a Boeing 767-300ER, registered N664UA.

This is a 25.9-year-old wide-body aircraft belonging to the US carrier United Airlines. The aircraft has been in continuous service with the airline since its original delivery in June 1998.

United Airlines is one of the four major airlines in the United States, boasting a large network of domestic and international flights.

They are a founding member of Star Alliance, which offers travelers a vast connecting network and access to frequent flyer benefits.
