SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Air Europa have forged a new codeshare partnership that promises to increase travel connectivity between Scandinavia and the Iberian Peninsula.
This strategic alliance not only expands route networks for both airlines but also offers travelers greater flexibility and convenience.
Expanded Destination Network
The partnership introduces an impressive array of new travel possibilities. SAS passengers will now enjoy direct access to 12 key destinations across Spain and Portugal.
This includes vibrant cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Málaga, Vigo, Bilbao, and Palma de Mallorca, as well as Portuguese destinations Lisbon and Oporto.
Conversely, Air Europa travelers gain comprehensive access to SAS’ extensive Scandinavian network. Highlights include direct flights to major cities such as Copenhagen, Aarhus, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo, Trondheim, Stavanger, and Bergen. The new route configurations create seamless travel experiences across multiple regions.
Global Network Expansion
The collaboration extends far beyond European boundaries. SAS customers will soon explore Air Europa’s networks in diverse regions, including North Africa, the Caribbean, and South America.
Exciting destinations like Marrakech, Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, and Salvador de Bahia are now within easier reach.

Paul Verhagen, SAS Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the partnership’s customer benefits. “Our collaboration with Air Europa significantly enhances travel options to the Iberian Peninsula. With daily flights from Copenhagen to Madrid, we’re creating unprecedented connectivity between Scandinavia and key Spanish destinations.”
Imanol Pérez, Air Europa’s Commercial Director, highlighted the agreement’s broader implications. “This partnership introduces 20 new routes, simplifying flight planning and ensuring consistent service quality through our shared SkyTeam alliance membership.”
Operational Details
The codeshare agreement, formalized at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid on January 23, 2025, leverages both airlines’ strengths. Starting this summer, travelers can experience the benefits of this new partnership.
Airline Backgrounds
SAS, Scandinavia’s premier airline since 1946, operates from strategic hubs in Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm.
Serving over 25 million passengers annually, the airline connects 135 destinations across Europe, the USA, and Asia. SAS joined the SkyTeam alliance in September 2024 and remains committed to its ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Air Europa, established in 1986, brings its own impressive credentials to the partnership. The carrier has a modern fleet of 52 aircraft, including Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Boeing 737 models.
Operating primarily from Madrid-Barajas airport, Air Europa serves more than 55 global destinations, specializing in connecting Europe and America.
This codeshare agreement not only benefits travelers but also strengthens both airlines’ positions in the competitive international travel market.
