For the first time in its history, the airport welcomed an astounding 16.1 million travellers. This easily surpasses the previous record of 14.9 million set a decade earlier in 2014.

Perth Airport CEO Jason Waters expressed his enthusiasm about this milestone, stating, “Our rebound from the Covid pandemic has been nothing short of amazing.”
“We have added more than ten million passengers since FY21, easily breaking a record that has stood for a decade.”
The significance of this achievement becomes even more apparent when considering the challenges faced by the aviation industry in recent years.
The global pandemic brought air travel to a near standstill, with airports worldwide experiencing unprecedented declines in passenger numbers.

Growth Fuelling Infrastructure Development
To meet the growing demand and prepare for future increases in passenger traffic, Perth Airport is embarking on a massive $5 billion infrastructure investment plan.
This decade-long project aims to transform the airport into a world-class facility capable of handling increased capacity while providing an enhanced travel experience for passengers.
Key components of this expansive plan include:
- Expansion of the international terminal to accommodate more flights and passengers
- Construction of new domestic terminal facilities to improve efficiency and passenger comfort
- Development of a parallel runway to increase the airport’s operational capacity
- Addition of two multi-storey carparks to ease parking congestion
- Construction of the airport’s first hotel, offering convenient accommodation for travelers
“This will deliver one airport for the people of Western Australia which will host all flight services in a central location, giving passengers a seamless, world-class travel experience,” Waters explained.
Current Terminal Improvements
In addition to these long-term projects, Perth Airport is also implementing immediate improvements to enhance the passenger experience.
Work is set to begin on the first multi-storey carpark outside Terminal 1. This directly addresses the growing need for convenient parking options.
Terminal 2 will see expansions, including more departure gates and seating areas to accommodate increasing passenger numbers.
The airport is also planning to add more car parks and make changes to the road network. This will be carried out around Terminal 2 to improve traffic flow along the forecourt.
These developments promise significant benefits for travelers and the broader Western Australian community. However, Waters acknowledges that the construction process may cause some inconvenience.
“Unfortunately, with all of this work, there will be some pain for passengers during construction,” he said.
“We ask that passengers understand that this is a significant investment which will transform Perth Airport and take us into the future.”
