A Loganair ATR 42-600 operating a regional flight between Sumburgh and Glasgow was diverted to Aberdeen after shutting down an engine in flight due to a technical problem on 23 July 2024.
Loganair flight LM436 was en route from Sumburgh airport (LSI) and approaching the Scottish East Coast when the problem occurred.

According to the Aviation Herald, flight crew had to shut down the aircraft’s left-hand engine whilst the aircraft was in the cruise.
Flight crew then made the decision to conduct a diversion to nearby Aberdeen Airport.
The regional flight subsequently landed at Aberdeen without further incident less than half an hour after the diversion was initiated.

Flight data shows that Loganair regional flight LM436 made a departure from Sumburgh Airport at 1225 local time on 23 July.
The flight then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL180 (18,000 feet) for the service to Glasgow airport (GLA).
Flight crew declared an emergency with transponder code 7700 from the cruise at 1303 local time. A descent was then initiated and a precautionary diversion to Aberdeen International Airport (ABZ) was made.
The aircraft conducting the LM436 service to Glasgow was an ATR 42-600, registered G-LMSA. This is a 7.4 year old twin turbo-prop regional aircraft belonging to the carrier Loganair.
It has been operational service with the airline since August 2021. Prior to its service with the carrier it was operated by Aer Lingus Regional and Stobart Air.
