JetZero, an innovative aerospace start-up, has announced Greensboro, North Carolina, as the site for its first advanced manufacturing and final assembly facility.
This state-of-the-art factory, located at Piedmont Triad International Airport, will produce the Z4, an all-wing airplane designed to revolutionize commercial aviation. The blended wing body design offers superior fuel efficiency and cutting-edge engineering.
A Boost for North Carolina’s Economy
The new facility is set to create over 14,500 jobs, delivering a significant economic boost to the Greensboro region. These opportunities will foster collaboration with local academic and vocational institutions, strengthening the area’s workforce.
By the late 2030s, the factory aims to produce up to 20 Z4 airplanes per month. This supports the U.S. goal of revitalizing American manufacturing and reinforcing its leadership in aerospace innovation.
Governor Josh Stein celebrated the announcement, stating, “I’m thrilled to welcome JetZero and its 14,000 high-paying jobs to Guilford County. From being first in flight to shaping the future of aviation, North Carolina’s skilled workforce is soaring.”
The state’s robust aerospace ecosystem, access to top-tier research institutions, and commitment to innovation were key factors in JetZero’s decision.
Why Greensboro?
JetZero’s CEO and co-founder, Tom O’Leary, highlighted North Carolina’s unique advantages. “The state offers the perfect mix of talent, infrastructure, and visionary leadership to support our mission of transforming aviation,” he said.
“This facility marks a major milestone in bringing the Z4 to market. We’re grateful for the support of Governor Stein, the North Carolina General Assembly, and local leaders.”
Kevin Baker, Executive Director of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority, emphasized the broader impact.
“JetZero’s arrival validates our vision to make Piedmont Triad International Airport a hub of aerospace excellence. This project will create high-quality jobs and drive a sustainable, innovation-focused future for the region and state.”
JetZero will start construction in early 2026 and expects to deliver the first aircraft to customers in the early 2030s.
JetZero is also partnering with state and local officials to develop workforce training programs. This will ensure a skilled labor force for the facility.
Cutting-Edge Technology and Design
JetZero is adopting a forward thinking approach to building the factory. It is collaborating with Siemens’ Smart Infrastructure, Electrification, and Automation divisions, which are based in North Carolina.
By leveraging advanced digital tools and industrial AI, the factory will optimize production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Siemens’ technology also supports JetZero’s design, build, and test process for the Z4 Demonstrator, a full-scale prototype set to fly in 2027.
These tools streamline development, reduce timelines, and maintain the highest safety and quality standards.

Airline Industry Interest
The Z4 has already garnered significant interest from major airlines. JetZero has secured conditional purchase agreements from United Airlines for 100 aircraft with options for 100 more, alongside an undisclosed number of orders from Alaska Airlines.
Additional investments and agreements are expected soon. Approximately 14 airlines have joined JetZero’s Airline Working Group to provide input, ensuring the Z4 integrates seamlessly into existing airport infrastructure.
