Dentons Davis Brown is pleased to announce a significant courtroom victory following an eight-day jury trial and more than two years of contentious litigation. The litigation team successfully represented its client in a complex commercial dispute, culminating in a favorable jury verdict.
The case began as an action for unpaid rent, but it quickly escalated when the opposing party filed multiple counterclaims, including breach of contract, fraudulent inducement, fraudulent misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation, breach of the covenant of quiet enjoyment, conspiracy, and a demand for US$2 million in punitive damages. The jury rejected all counterclaims, delivering a clear win for the client.
“This result is a testament to the preparation, skill, and teamwork of our litigation group,” said lead counsel for the case, Deborah Tharnish. “We are proud of the outcome and to have protected our client’s interests through every stage of this case.” This case marks the final jury trial for Deb, capping off an incredible career – with a favorable result for a client.
Following the trial victory, the court has also awarded additional attorney fees and costs, bringing the total award to US$1,594,458.87. The judge found the attorney fees to be reasonable and appropriate, noting that “The attorneys performed excellent work, with Green’s experienced lead trial attorney literally trying her last jury trial in this case.”
Trial counsel also included Katelynn McCollough and Ann Kendell, who led the in-courtroom strategy and execution. Their efforts were supported by Rob McMonagle, Jenna Wheeler, Mary White, Karmen Virden, and Rachael Bigg, who played key roles in trial preparation and logistics.
