Following its debut at the Singapore airshow last week, China’s COMAC C919 passenger aircraft has now landed in Vietnam. The Chinese manufactured commercial jet is to now take part in another airshow in Vietnam.
Two COMAC commercial aircraft – the narrowbody C919 and the ARJ21 regional jet arrived at Van Dorn International Airport in Vietnam northern Quang Ninh province on Monday.
Arrival for Quang Ning Province Airshow
Regional news sources Vietnam News agency reported the arrival of the aircraft stating they were now attending original airshow.
The two aircraft made their first airshow debut appearance outside China at Singapore Airshow 2024.
The C919 made its international debut at the show last week. Its presence indicated a strong desire to showcase the aircraft to a global audience.
According to the Chinese news source, the appearance of the jets in Vietnam would enable operation of commercial flights from China to Van Don.
Hoang Van Dung, deputy director of Van Don International Airport said flights would firstly take place from Shantou City in China’s Guangdong Province.
The Vietnam airshow will also promote tourism between Chinese markets and the Vietnamese Quang Ninh province.
Following the airshow in Quang Ninh, the two Chinese jets will fly to Da Nang city, and Ho Chi Minh City. The aircraft will reportedly then proceed to Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
About the COMAC C919
The COMAC C919 is a narrow-body airliner, the first to be developed by China and receive a type certificate. It is designed to compete with the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, the workhorses of the short-haul aviation market.
The development program for the C919 was launched in 2008, with the first flight taking place in 2017.
The aircraft received its type certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in September 2022. It entered commercial service with China Eastern Airlines in May 2023.
The C919 is powered by CFM International LEAP-1C engines. These engines are also used on the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX.
The aircraft has a range of up to 5,555 kilometers (3,452 miles). It will between 158 and 192 passengers in a two-class configuration.
COMAC is currently developing a number of variants of the C919, including a shortened version for high-altitude airports and a stretched version that will seat more passengers.
The company is also working on a wide-body aircraft, the C929, which is expected to enter service in the early 2030s.
The C919 is a significant development for the Chinese aviation industry. It represents the country’s ambition to become a major player in the commercial aircraft market.
However, the C919 faces a number of challenges, including competition from established manufacturers and the need to obtain international certification.
