An Air France flight bound for Paris has declared an emergency and returned to New York on 19 August 2025.
Air France flight AF9, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER had departed from New York JFK International Airport.
The aircraft was performing a scheduled service bound for Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).

As the Paris bound flight entered the transatlantic stage of the journey, flight crew declared an emergency squawking transponder code 7700.
A turnaround was initiated, and the flight then carried out a direct return to New York JFK.
The aircraft landed approximately one hour after the emergency was declared. The nature of the emergency is not yet known.

Flight data shows that flight AF9 and made a departure out of New York JFK International Airport at 12:28 AM local time. Scheduled time of departure for the flight service was listed as 11:30 PM local time on 18 August.
Following departure, the flight had initially set course normally. Flight crew had established the aircraft at flight level FL350 when the emergency was declared.
Flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 at 05:10 UTC, before initiating a turnaround. A direct course for the departure airport was then carried out.

This is a 19.6 year old widebody aircraft belonging to the French national carrier Air France. It has been operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in January 2006.
