Earlier this week, an Aeroflot Airbus A330 suffered an incident on the runway at Phuket after landing.
Information has come to light regarding this event.
Here is what we know so far…
Aeroflot Flight SU626 – Yekaterinburg-Phuket…
Aeroflot flight SU626 is a routine scheduled flight between Yekaterinburg and Phuket.
The aircraft involved in the incident is registered as RA-73783.
As per data from Planespotters.net, RA-73783 is a 12.8 year old Airbus A330-300 that was delivered to the airline in August 2011.
In April 2022, the aircraft was re-registered under the Russian registry due to the Ukraine War.
Of the A330-300 variant, Aeroflot has 12 of them in the fleet, of which all but four are in active service.
Furthermore, average fleet age for the variant at the airline stands at 12.1 years.
Aeroflot flight SU626 departed Yekaterinburg at 0008 local time on April 22 and headed to Phuket.
Everything was normal into the flight until the landing into the Thai airport.
On landing, the Aeroflot Airbus A330 suffered a severe loss of hydraulic fluid during landing into Phuket.
It is understood that this resulted in the aircraft’s steering system becoming disabled.
Grounded Following the Incident…
The Aeroflot Airbus A330 remains grounded in the Thai airport following the incident.
It is unclear how long it will take for the aircraft to get back in the air, as it has already been grounded for two days at the time of publication.
Furthermore, it is also unclear whether sanctions on Russia will keep this aircraft grounded permanently.
