Aer Lingus: Dublin Airport Cap Application Was Late

It has emerged that Aer Lingus has criticised the DAA over how late the application to increase the passenger cap at Dublin Airport was.

According to a report from The Irish Times, the airline has called on Fingal County Council to grant an immediate interim increase in the passenger cap.

Aer Lingus: Dublin Airport Cap Application Was Late…

Aer Lingus‘ director of corporate affairs Niall Timlin had this to say on the application made by the DAA to increase the passenger cap at Dublin Airport back in December:

“Dublin Airport has been fully aware for many years of the growth plans of airlines based at Dublin … This specific planning application could have and should have been made and dealt with much earlier.”

“There is significant national economic risk from the existing 32 million per annum passenger cap”.

“[The cap] is no longer fit for purpose”.

This is on the grounds that by 2030, Dublin Airport is expected to hit 40m passengers per year, which is currently not possible under the current capped rules.

“Dublin Airport will be unable to accommodate this passenger demand unless Fingal County Council increases the current cap”, said IBEC.

Looking ahead, all eyes will be on whether the passenger cap increase will be approved by the council, as Aer Lingus and other airlines are banking on this to be able to increase services from the Irish airport.

But for now, let’s wait and see what happens.
