JetBlue Retires Embraer E190 With Final New York-Boston Flight

Posted on September 10, 2025

JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ: JBLU) recently reached a historic milestone in its 25-year journey by retiring its Embraer E190 (E190) aircraft after its final revenue flight.

This moment marks the end of an era for the aircraft that fueled JetBlue’s growth and innovation.

As the airline says goodbye to the E190, it embraces a modern, all-Airbus fleet, featuring the advanced Airbus A220-300.

This transition highlights JetBlue’s commitment to efficiency, performance, and passenger comfort.

Last E190 Flight New York-Boston

The last E190 flight, operating as flight B6190, took place recently, connecting New York’s JFK airport to Boston. This route holds special significance, as it mirrored the E190’s inaugural flight in 2005.

The final journey was a celebration, with festive gate-side events in both cities. Customers, crewmembers, and invited guests joined the occasion, with JetBlue’s Chief Operating Officer, Warren Christie, piloting the flight.

Notably, Christie also captained the E190’s first flight, and he was joined by original crewmembers for this farewell.

“I’m honored to pilot this final E190 flight, just as I did its first,” Christie said. “The E190 played a vital role in JetBlue’s early growth, connecting key short-haul markets like New York and Boston.”

“It helped us expand into new regions and deliver our signature experience to millions. This flight marks a pivotal step in our fleet’s evolution.”

The E190, with its 100-seat configuration, was a game-changer for JetBlue. As the first airline worldwide to operate this aircraft, JetBlue used it to expand its network and introduce its award-winning service to new markets.

The E190 became a symbol of the airline’s friendly, customer-focused approach and exceptional onboard comfort.

A New Chapter with the Airbus A220

As JetBlue retires the E190, it celebrates another milestone: the delivery of its 50th Airbus A220 aircraft. With 52 of its 100 ordered A220s now in service, JetBlue is simplifying its fleet to two aircraft types: the Airbus A320 and A220 families.

The A220 is central to JetBlue’s fleet modernization strategy, offering unmatched fuel efficiency, lower operating costs, and a superior passenger experience.

The A220’s cabin is designed for comfort, featuring 140 Collins Meridian seats—the widest in JetBlue’s fleet. Passengers enjoy spacious overhead bins, custom seatback storage, large windows, and in-seat power with AC, USB-A, and USB-C ports.

The aircraft also offers fast, free Fly-Fi® and personalized inflight entertainment at every seat, ensuring JetBlue’s signature experience continues to shine.

The A220’s extended range unlocks new possibilities for transcontinental routes, something the E190 couldn’t achieve.

Its fuel efficiency aligns with JetBlue’s JetForward strategy, supporting the airline’s financial goals while reducing environmental impact. This modern aircraft allows JetBlue to explore new markets and enhance connectivity across its network.

Looking Ahead

The retirement of the E190 and the integration of the A220 mark a turning point for JetBlue. By streamlining its fleet, the airline is positioning itself for growth, efficiency, and an even better customer experience.

As JetBlue celebrates 25 years, it remains committed to delivering friendly service, innovative solutions, and a comfortable journey for all travelers.
