Unlike previous generations, salary remains important, but work-life balance and flexibility have emerged as top priorities for Gen Z. Salary vs. zen
For Gen Z, salary (29%) and work-life balance (26%) are the two key factors when choosing a job. This highlights the growing trend of a balanced, holistic approach to career decisions. The study reveals that Gen Z professionals are looking for financial stability alongside the ability to maintain personal time, mental health, and hobbies. This preference is not vastly different from Millennials, with salary (28%) and work-life balance (26%) also ranking highly for them.

Work from anywhere, please

When it comes to work arrangements, flexibility is crucial. The study shows that 34% of Gen Z professionals prefer a hybrid work model, combining office and remote work. Millennials also show a preference for hybrid setups, with 41% choosing this option.

A smaller proportion of Gen Z (17%) prefers full-time remote work, and only 25% opt for traditional office-based roles. This shift in preference indicates that younger professionals value autonomy and flexibility, especially in how they manage their productivity and work-life integration.

Entrepreneurship? Nah, I’ll take structure
Contrary to popular belief, entrepreneurship is not the top career aspiration for Gen Z. Only 10% of respondents expressed interest in starting their own business. Millennials, too, show a marginally higher interest, with 13% inclined toward entrepreneurial roles.

This suggests that while the media often portrays Gen Z as highly entrepreneurial, most still prefer structured employment, as long as it offers flexibility and growth opportunities.

Gen Z’s career checklist
Beyond flexibility and salary, Gen Z seeks employers who focus on continuous learning and personal development. The study highlights that today’s young professionals are motivated by more than just job titles or perks. They value work that aligns with their personal values and offers the opportunity to grow professionally and socially. For these individuals, meaningful work, upskilling opportunities, and a sense of purpose take precedence.
